Compartmenting

What I mean is the ability to separate different elements from a single entity and treat them individually if needed. For example, if your friend’s action offended you, by putting a “mental/psychological separation” between the offensive act and the person, you may find yourself easier to forgive him/her and move on.

A Sounding Board

A friend of mine at the receiving end of coaching told me that she found it helpful by simply hearing herself out in a coaching session. She added that sometimes when she starts to explain herself to the coach, then she realizes that it does not make sense even to herself. Furthermore, the additional benefit of having the coach as the sounding board providing an objective framework is definitely beneficial.

An occasion to read

A friend of mine told me that he read my book while he was waiting at the US immigration line for almost 3 hours. It was very “fortunate” that he had my book in his carry-on luggage!

I actually have suggested in multiple occasions to various people that my book would be a perfect travel companion for trips, long and short. I am glad that someone did listen to me. In addition, I have received some positive (and fair) feedback from him.

Metamorphosis

MetamorphosisA point of clarification is quite needed as some people misunderstood me when I told them that I am going through a metamorphosis. They thought I was turning into a gigantic bug like the fiction by Franz Kafka,
There are 2 meanings of the word Metamorphosis.
The first one is a term used in zoology referring to the process of transformation of an insect or amphibian from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages.
The second meaning is a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one. I thought it was clear to everyone that I was referring to the second meaning. I was referred as a “social butterfly” before, but I am actually not an insect!

Take Initiative

On more than a few occasions, I have discussed with others about their career development. One common comment is the lack of opportunities given from management at their current SilverPlatterjob. My suggestion is to take initiative and seek opportunities including learning and developing new skills yourself. We cannot expect our managers to hang down opportunities to us “on a silver platter”.
Take charge of your own career and create your own opportunity!

A Journey it is

A friend of mine asked me about how my book sales and coaching were going on.Journey  I replied to her that it is a journey which has just started. She was surprised and told me that she sometimes felt like life was just getting through till the end of the day.
I think our perspective and attitude towards life have an impact on the richness and enjoyment of life itself.
Look up, smile and enjoy the roses along journey of life.

Different Learning Styles

A guest at my friend Gary’s birthday party gave me feedback on my book.Logic He told me that he found the section on “Reflect on your own study style” (p.14) useful and reassuring. He said he did not realize the one of the learning styles is Logical (mathematical) which is his style. I assured him that it does exist because I am also of that learning style.

I lost my voice

I should have seen it coming. I have lost my voice after passionately talkingVoiceLoss about my book at my friend Gary’s birthday party tonight. Well, without any promotional materials allowed at the party, instead of letting my work speak for itself, I actually needed to make extra effort to promote it. As the time of writing this blog, I am drinking honey with lemon juice to bring back my voice.
