Recently, a friend of mine called me a “hacker.” I was perplexed and asked him why.
He then explained that I often find unconventional solutions, which he considers a form of “hacking.” In other words, someone who looks for alternatives when a standard solution does not work. After that explanation, I agreed with his remark that I don’t accept the statement “That does not work” and give up easily.
For example, in 2024, there was a major strike at the SNCF (the French national railway company), which resulted in the cancellation of most trains departing from Paris, including my round trip to Limoges one day before departure. I opened a map of France and found a train going to a town near Limoges. Then, I took a BlaBlaCar to reach my final destination. In fact, the total cost was almost the same as the original trip.
Upon reflection, I believe this “hacking” mindset comes from my mother, who is a champion of creative solutions.

Suis-je un « hacker » ?
Récemment, un ami m’a dit que j’étais un « hacker ». J’étais vexé et je lui ai demandé pourquoi.
Il m’a expliqué que je trouve souvent des solutions non-conventionnelles. Selon lui, cela correspond à une forme de « hacking » : quelqu’un qui cherche d’autres solutions lorsque la solution « standard » ne fonctionne pas. Après son explication, j’ai reconnu qu’il avait raison, car je n’accepte pas facilement la phrase « ça ne marche pas » et je n’abandonne pas facilement.
Par exemple, en 2024, à cause d’une grève de la SNCF, la plupart des trains au départ de Paris ont été annulés, y compris mon aller-retour pour Limoges, un jour avant le départ. J’ai alors ouvert une carte de la France et cherché un train de Paris vers une ville proche de Limoges, puis pris un BlaBlaCar pour atteindre ma destination. En effet, le coût total était à peu près le même, et le trajet n’était qu’une heure plus long que le train direct entre Paris et Limoges.
Après réflexion, je pense que cette mentalité vient de ma mère, qui est une championne des solutions créatives.
